Hollywood = Shovelware

I saw this story on Slashdot: WB Took Pains To "Delay" Pirating of Dark Knight. So, of course, I had to read it. If for nothing else, the comments.

Actually, the full story that Slashdot links to is at this link: Secrecy cloaked 'Dark Knight'. TDK would've made the same amount of money that it did regardless. It's an event movie. Anyway, that article is very telling.

"If the movie's a stiff, and word gets out too early that it's a stiff, it's devastating to the business model."

That quote right there tells you everything you need to know about the movie industry.

They loathe the internet, not just for letting some people access their content without paying them for it, but because it quickly lets people know when they're putting out a piece of garbage. Not only putting out a piece of garbage, but willingly and knowingly doing so, hoping that it'll make a quick buck before word spreads that it sucks. Of course, that's much harder in this day and age when word spreads very very quickly.

Remember that quote the next time you see a bad movie or read about the MPAA or whoever whining about revenue losses. I've got zero sympathy for them. They bring it upon themselves.
