Catching Up On TV From The First Week Of May 2009

Time to catch up on the stuff I've been watching on TV over the last few days. Brief and spoiler free. I'll start with Friday.

Friday

PRISON BREAK: As implausible as this show is, it seems to get more and more ridiculous all the time. It's all almost over, and I've been there since day one, so I can't wait to see how it all wraps up. (Even though we'll have to wait for a direct to DVD movie for the real ending.)

DOLLHOUSE: It's a real shame that the first few episodes of this show weren't like this one. Not that it would've helped ratings that much. After all, the show was in the Friday Night Death Slot. Still, if roughly half of the first (and probably only) season of this show weren't filler and were as good as this it'd be much easier for me to justify buying the Blu-Ray. As it is, if/when I do buy it, I'll be skipping the first disc or two. Anyway, Alan Tudyk was great as usual in this episode. Sure, most of us knew what was coming, but it still played out really well.

Sunday

BREAKING BAD: The phrase "game-changer" is thrown around way too much lately. Still, the ending of this episode certainly does change things in a major way for this show.

Monday

THE BIG BANG THEORY: I never can think of much to say about this show. For the most part, I enjoy it.

HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER: This whole episode was one big red-herring. It seemed like they were finally going to reveal the mother, using clues from previous seasons, and instead we get the return of a character that departed.

24: Well, it's better than HEROES.

CASTLE: The only thing I remember about this one is that Carla from SCRUBS was on it. For a show I like, I don't seem to retain much from it after I'm done watching.

Tuesday

SCRUBS: The second to last episode was a pretty good one. It mostly felt like a build-up to the finale though.

BETTER OFF TED: The season finale, and let's hope it's not the series finale, was a good one. The idea of company mandated cliques in a workplace was pretty amusing.

REAPER: Another show that's unlikely to return. Hopefully they tie up all of the lose ends before the season (or series) finale. This one had quite a few twists, and changed up the formula a bit.

Wednesday

SCRUBS: One of the better endings to a TV show that I've ever seen. (THE SHIELD probably stands as my favorite ending to a TV series ever.) Given how good of a wrap-up it was, and how weak a lot of episodes from the last two seasons felt, this seems like the best place to end the show. Especially when the ending was as strong as this one. I hate to say it, but I hope ABC doesn't go through with renewing the show and replacing the cast members who won't or can't return. Wish my brother, who loved SCRUBS, could've seen how it all ended.

LOST: I liked that this one, the last one before the season finale, followed both currently running storylines/timelines. Looks like things in the 70s are drawing to a close, and maybe we'll find out what happened to the original plane crash survivors that disappeared all of this season, and see what the new batch from the second plane crash are up to next week.

THE UNUSUALS: I think I'm done with this one. I watched the first twenty minutes or so, then I decided I was bored and felt like shaving my head was a better use of my time. So I did just that. Odds are this show isn't getting a renewal anyway, and it never really hooked me. Of course, now that I've given up on it, it'll probably become a CSI/LAW AND ORDER-esque hit and last for thirty seasons and have a bunch of spin-offs.

I found myself actually paying attention to the last half of Reaper this week. Do you know how many episodes are left, if it’s even possible to see resolution?

There are 13 episodes, last week was 210, so 3 left: 211, 212, 213. If you'd like you can join us at ReaperDMV.com and talk about the episode, or find out information on the upcoming ones. They knew they had 13 episodes, so yeah it'll be a bit of a "wrap up" although I would think that wounldn't preclude a setup for future episodes.
