Oh Noes! We's Goin' Die!
Monitor Swine Flu with zero media hype. Might as well hop on this one before the panic is over.
After all, the panic has already hit the sublimely ridiculous spot: Afghanistan's only pig quarantined in flu fear.
Fun With Weirdos
The creepiest man on the Internet has been crowned. Remember, no matter how dorky or weird you might be, there has to be somebody out there worse than you. Imagine the guy that's worse than this chump!
Super villain attacks Cincinnati's real life superhero. your move, Shadowhare. I see this all ending tragically comically. I eagerly await the appearance of a real world Punisher though. Forget these guys who want to be Batman. They're going to wind up dead because they tried to pull a citizen's arrest on the wrong guy.
Copyright Idiocy!
20th Century Fox sends takedowns over its own YouTube mashup contest. It's always great when one division has no clue what the other is doing at these big companies, isn't it?
Mininova tests copyright filtering service. Smart of them to at least make it look like their doing something. Sort of like people that work in offices who wander around aimlessly but are smart enough to carry some papers with them to cover up their slacking.
RIAA: "we have no choice" but to file more named lawsuits. Oh, see. They "have no choice". Sure, they lied about giving up on the "sue 'em all" model, but it's because they "had no choice".
Pirate Party 3rd largest political party in Sweden. I still think something like "Digital Rights Movement Party" sounds like something that could be taken more seriously than "Pirate Party". "Pirate Party" sounds like some sort of theme party with drunk dudes dressed up like morons.
It's time to legalize personal-use DVD copying. It's time to ditch the DMCA. Doing that would automatically make personal-use DVD copying legal.
Radiohead's manager: File sharing should be legal; it's great for music. That's just crazy talk. With those, you know, facts, and modern thinking. Utter rubbish!
Fines for IP infringement will increase tenfold in the UK. Raising to £50,000 from the current £5,000. Insane. I guess you'd be better off actually just stealing an actual physical DVD or CD instead obtaining an unauthorized duplicate, given those ridiculous rates. You'd certainly get off with lesser penalties.

Senator to FCC: time for black-and-white net neutrality rules. I'm always suspicious whenever a politician is in favor of doing the right thing. In this case, supporting net neutrality.
Who will monitor and audit broadband metering? Odds are the ISPs think it's them.
More Fun With The Legal System
Prosecutors seek 3 years in prison for Lori Drew. All part of that "cyber-bulling" thing. Personally, while it's a shame for that girl's family that she killed herself, if she was so weak and thin-skinned that some negative things said about her on the internet drove her to suicide, it's highly improbable she could've coped with the real world as an adult anyway.
Bill unveiled to reverse U.S. online gambling ban. Again, time to ditch a law that most people were ignoring anyway.
More troubling proposed anti-social networking laws: CA wants photo removal law. Dumb dumb dumb. I really think that people who don't understand the internet shouldn't be allowed to make laws about the internet.
South Carolina to Craigslist: close Erotic Services—or else! I've never used those sorts of services, but it seems strange that anybody should care if other people do. I guess all it took was one serial killer to mess things up for the pervs out there, huh?

DISTRICT 9 teaser trailer: the uncensored version. This looks like it could be interesting. I haven't been following the hype around this movie much, but I did keep seeing the name as I skimmed through my Google Reader headlines.
New trailer for DOGHOUSE puts zombie bitches in their place. This looks like something I might enjoy. I liked the director's other movie, EVIL ALIENS, and familiar with most of the cast.
Video Games
BIOSHOCK 3 might be returning to Rapture. Oh c'mon! BIOSHOCK 2 isn't even out yet, and they're already talking about a third one?
Russian teenager killed over COUNTER-STRIKE game. Well, expect the usual "let's ban games" sort of talk over there now. I give it until the end of the week before the first headline about that appears.
Square has "no plans" for U.S. Blu-ray FFXIII demo. Still a downloadable demo is a possibility. Really, in this case, a demo is mostly for fans who are dying from the long wait can play a little of the game they've been waiting on. I doubt anybody who's never played a FF game is clamoring for a demo.
FINAL FANTASY XIII not a JRPG, despite being a JRPG. That's odd that Square seems to want to get FF13 away from the JRPG label. Maybe they're hoping to broaden their overseas audience. (Which is why this one's also hitting the Xbox 360, which has a higher market penetration than the PS3 outside of Japan.)
ESA 'applauds' game pirate imprisonment. Judging from the number of games, movies, and music CDs, sounds like this guy was doing actual for profit piracy. Not just downloading the occasional game to check out or whatever. I've got zero problems with commercial pirates getting in trouble.
