Entertainment

MPAA CEO throws the towel, quits early. I suppose that's the next best thing to him and the rest of the MPAA dying in a grease fire.

It's official: AVATAR is now the highest-grossing movie EVER. Still haven't seen it. Still don't plan to until it hits cable.

Fox wins studio war for Robert Rodriguez' MACHETE; now his new filmmaking home. Wow, surprised he jumped ship.

GREMLINS 3 in development, studio aiming for 3-D? Given how long it's been since the first two movies, I'm surprised they're not going for a straight up remake.

Billie Piper 'moving on' from DOCTOR WHO. Good. The character of Rose was likable in the first series, but was awful in series two and it was annoying how they kept bringing her back and constantly mentioning her.

STAR TREK 2 will focus on the villain. Everybody seems to be pushing for Khan. Personally, I think it'd be best to avoid him, and therefore avoid comparisons to the best TREK movie of all time.

Rajskub 'not worried' about '24' axe. Fox will probably keep it going even if every season after 5 (which was awesome) has gotten progressively worse. I'm bored with the current season.

Syfy's CAPRICA gets disappointing start. I guess that's what happens when you have a finale as disappointing as GALACTICA's was... people get a sour taste in their mouth and don't want anything to do with any spin-offs. Which is also why I have yet to watch more than a few minutes of THE PLAN. (Caught a little of it when it was on SciFi a few weeks back during commercial breaks of whatever I was watching that was on at the same time. DOLLHOUSE, I think.)

Greg Grunberg says time slot change hurt HEROES. I like Greg Grunberg, which I've been reminded of recently while re-watching ALIAS on DVD. Still, I think he's way off... HEROES has been hurt by being complete shit from season two onwards.

Video Games

Three years later, the PS3 gets hacked. Given how expensive blank Blu-rays are, I'd say even if they did come up with a way to play pirated PS3 games, the cost of blank media would be cost-prohibitive for the average pirate.

SUPER STREET FIGHTER IV box art revealed. I think the only way I'll pick this one up will be if it hits the $19.99 or below price mark.

DEAD RISING 2 to release this year. I thought it was already established that it was coming out in the summer?

In the meantime, Capcom releases a few shots of DEAD RISING 2.

DEAD RISING: THE MOVIE directed by Keiji Inafune. Looks kinda bleh to me.

BIOSHOCK 2 score will be available digitally. If the non-score soundtrack is as good as the last one was, I hope somebody will post it somewhere. (I've got both the score and the licensed old music from the first game and I listen to them all the time.)

MGS: PEACE WALKER could have been MGS5, says Kojima. He should've just made it for the PS3 then, instead of the PSP.

Ubisoft's PC games will soon require an internet connection. This will only inconvience paying users, while pirates will come up with cracks to get around this. So, chalk this up in the "expensive, dumb, and useless move" category.

Big news post and I have several things to say. I'll go in order.

Avatar wasn't great. I don't understand why people loved it so much. There are plenty of parodies and comparisons out there so I'll not bother with talking about them.

I saw the pilot of Caprica months ago and wasn't impressed. I got the feeling the spin off thing was shoehorned in and I believe I read that it was. Not that I was actually a fan of BSG anyway. I really couldn't get into it.

I've never bothered to watch Alias, but Grunberg's work on The Jake Effect was awesome and I've liked him ever since I saw that. I also don't think Heroes is any worse or better than it was in the second season. It definitely has its ups and its downs but overall the story is interesting so I continue to watch it.

I forgot to comment on the Ubisoft thing. Steam games get cracked all the time, so that's just silly.

I forgot to mention I have no desire to see Avatar .. ever. I am not a person to go see a movie because James Cameron did it.

Terminator 2 and True Lies were great movies.. Titanic.. never saw that either.. the boat sinks.. people die..

*shrugs*
