Been a few days since my last update. Poker, Christmas stuff, and having a new puppy in the house have been keeping me really really busy.
Misc Stuff
Book 99 years overdue returned to Mass. library. The fine was $361.35 but didn't have to be paid.
It's hard to do your Christmas shopping online when the items arrive in their retail boxes. Yeah, I've noticed in the past that places like Newegg will just ship certain items without any additional packaging. Personally, I'd be more worried about somebody swiping your package before you see it than a surprise being ruined.
Cutting your TV watching in half burns calories equivalent to walking eight miles per week. But what if you work out while watching TV? Like on an eliptical or a stationary bike?
Entertainment
Warner to release all Blu-rays as BD/DVD combos. I actually think this is a great move. I'd much rather get an actual DVD with the Blu-ray than a shitty "digital copy". I can loan out the DVD or use it on any of the TVs in the house that have a DVD player hooked up but no Blu-ray machine. (Only Blu-ray player I have at the moment is my PS3.) If they do actually keep the price the same as it would be for a regular Blu-ray, then it's a definite winner. Seriously, this is what the studios should be doing to "combat piracy", giving more value for the consumer dollar.
New HOT TUB TIME MACHINE trailer is like THE HANGOVER - with time travel! I thought this sounded stupid at first, but after seeing the trailer, I'm actually looking forward to seeing this movie at some point.
11 awesome season 3 spoilers from the creators of CHUCK. Next month! Meanwhile, FOX to air new HOUSE against CHUCK. I think it's interesting that they're bringing back HOUSE earlier than they had planned. I doubt they're that scared of CHUCK though, when the show had to have people begging to get it renewed. (HOUSE ran out of gas for me last season. It's not a bad show, I just got bored with it.)
Dept. of the obvious: 89% Of TV viewers are bothered by loud commercials. Yeah, when the volume of the television goes from reasonable volume to "they can hear it in the next town over" levels when a commercial comes on, it is really annoying.
LOL: WTF Comcast. A lot of times the funny descriptions in the OnDemand cable listings are better and more entertaining than the actual movies themselves.
YouTube considers charging monthly fee. I've got a related headline if this happens, "Whatever happened to YouTube?"
ABC to double up SCRUBS, BETTER OFF TED in January to burn them off. Some of us, okay, maybe just me, wondered what was going to happen to SCRUBS and BETTER OFF TED when LOST takes over their timeslot. Now we know.
R.I.P. ALIEN screenwriter Dan O'Bannon. Bummer. I've seen the majority of his work and enjoyed it.
Actress Brittany Murphy dies aged 32. I was incredibly shocked by this. Not to kick somebody while their down or anything, but since it's Hollywood there's a good chance that her heart failure was drug related. (Unless she had some sort of undiagnosed defect like my brother.)
Theater etiquette: what are your rules of engagement? Go to the theater as infrequently as possible or go when almost nobody else is there.
Video Games
Second RESIDENT EVIL 5 episode has playable Jill and Josh. Nice to get some info on the second new single-player mission in the DLC. Joystiq has a little more about it too: RESIDENT EVIL 5's 'Desperate Escape' episode detailed.
Another look at KANE & LYNCH 2: DOG DAYS. A new preview video. No gameplay footage though. Meanwhile, Destructoid has some screenshots from the game.
New footage of SPLINTER CELL: CONVICTION co-op emerges. I hope this has split-screen co-op, because I don't have a gold Live account, and really don't want to get one just so I can play the prequel mission.
BIOSHOCK 2 achievements/trophies revealed. For those of you into that whole thing. (Depending on the game, I'm inclined to either not care or try to unlock everything. I think the only two recent games where I unlocked every Xbox achievement were the first BIOSHOCK and RESIDENT EVIL 5.)
Ms. Pac-Man was once a man named Otto. That's so weird. I never knew this.
Take-Two CEO thinks GRAND THEFT AUTO 4 DLC was late to the party. It would've made more sense to have the DLC out as soon as possible. Games come out rapidly, and gamers move on to the next title pretty quickly.
Cage: Heavy Rain 'not a videogame anymore in my mind'. It's an "interactive movie". Hmm. Well, whatever you want to call it, it looks pretty good: New HEAVY RAIN screens depict sadness, facial hair.
Oh, and there will be HEAVY RAIN DLC... HEAVY RAIN DLC confirmed and detailed. I'm beginning to think DLC is a scam. Give you most of a game when you buy it and then charge you more money for the rest of it in small increments.
The Usual
Congress allocates $30 million for anti-piracy. $30 million dollars to prop up private business interests instead of used for things like, feeding the hungry, improving schools and roads, paying the deficit, etc. Awesome.
MPAA: Fighting Piracy Increases Consumer Choices. Those choices being, "do you want us to bend you over when we make you rebuy the same content over and over to play on a different device" or "do you want somebody in prison to bend you over when we take legal action against you for not wanting to pay for the same content over and over". Wow. What wonderful choices.
BPI: Illegal downloading is not decreasing. Yeah, the genie is out of the bottle.

When I had Comcast I ran across some extremely amusing movie descriptions, a fair amount of them read more like reviews than brief descriptions.
As for Brittney Murphy my guess is going to be cardiac arrest due to anorexia. Personally I think it's been fairly obvious that she has been struggling with this for the past few years.
FEARnet usually has the best ones. Like I said, they're usually better than the movies themselves.
