"Eco friendly" DVD, game, and Blu-ray cases are the stupidest thing ever. The whole point of a case for those items is to protect the item when they're not in use. Having big holes in the case covered by a sheet of paper and thin plastic makes the case feel incredibly flimsy. Getting your disc out of the case without punching a hole through the back is a challenge.

Add in the fact, that since most people don't throw away their DVD cases, these things are pointless, since most DVD cases are in people's houses and not landfills. Really they're just a cost cutting measure and a way of placating the very vocal "green" crowd. Ironically, these new cases are more likely to get replaced by collectors with regular cases and then tossed out. I'm also awarding bonus points for having holes in them that are more likely to have small animals getting stuck in them.
A quick bit of Googling shows me that I'm not alone in my dislike for these cases. In fact, somebody else pointed out how much easier it is for dust to get into these cases than the regular one. Guess I'll have to order some regular cases.
Can you tell I got a DVD in one of these cases today?

More importantly, which DVD was it?
the case sucks
Yeah, those cases are becoming the standard for a lot of things. Walmart is pushing for it. (I linked to the story on that a few weeks ago.)
The DVD was ON HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE. (Vastly under-rated Bond movie.) I got tired of waiting for the Blu-ray, and I had a BestBuy gift card that I won from my Coke Rewards points burning a hole in my pocket. So I decided to pull the trigger on it. I was 100% certain nobody was getting me that for Christmas.
