It's Been Awhile, But What I've Been Watching Returns!

It's been awhile since I've jabbered on about the stuff I've been watching. Mostly because it's summer and there are less things that I watch. But a few things have started up recently, so now I have things to write about. I'll try to keep it pretty brief, since it's actually a lot of stuff.

The stuff I watch regularly...

BURN NOTICE: We're about six episodes in, and so far this season has been pretty standard BURN NOTICE. I watch it, enjoy it, and pretty much forget about it right after I'm done. I still haven't bought the second season, because even though I own the first season, I've never popped the DVDs in once.

Z-ROCK: Most people have never heard of this hilarious comedy about a rock band because it's on IFC. That's their loss. It's probably my favorite thing to watch out of all of the stuff currently running.

HUNG: Only two episodes in on this one. I'm a fan of Tom Jane as an actor (even if I think he was a bit miscast in THE PUNISHER), so I gave this one a whirl. I like the concept, under-paid teacher becomes a male prostitute, but wonder how long they can stretch that out. I guess it's a male version of WEEDS. Speaking of which...

WEEDS: I'm finding this season so so. I didn't like last season at all, and this is an improvement. Still, the whole thing almost seems like a parody of the first two, maybe three seasons now.

LEVERAGE: I was psyched that "the poor man's American version of HUSTLE" has returned. That comment makes it seem like I don't like the show as much as I do. I enjoy both shows, but if I had to save only one, well, it'd definitely be HUSTLE. Anyway, this season, judging from the first episode, we get some kind of new opening credits sequence, complete with the characters in the show reiterating what the opening credits sequence (and the show's commercials) tell us about them.

ENTOURAGE: I know this show is pretty much the exact same thing week after week, season after season. I do. But I still find myself watching and enjoying it.

The stuff I watch sporadically...

I've been watching, at least here and there, both GENE SIMMONS FAMILY JEWELS and HAMMERTIME. Generally, I loathe reality TV. Still, these two shows are interesting enough. Both feel incredibly staged, but hey it's fun watching one guy who's been a success for as long as I've been alive, and contrasting that with a one-hit wonder with a gimmick who came and went while I was in high school. (He does seem like a really nice man though!)

Recent TV show additions to the DVD collection...

I ordered both THE IT CROWD: series 3 and NOT GOING OUT: series 1 on DVD from Amazon UK. NOT GOING OUT arrived on Friday morning, so I did re-watch a few episodes of that. Hopefully, my IT CROWD DVD will arrive tomorrow (probably Monday at the earliest.)

Other than that, I've been watching pretty much any and all poker that I stumble across on cable, but that's been going on for the entire year anyway. (You'd think I'd get enough of that considering the 6-8 hours a day on average that I play.)

I'm also trying to squeeze in time to watch a backlog of movies I've got. I did recently get through THE CINCINNATI KID, featuring one of the coolest men to ever walk the Earth, Steve McQueen. I'm also looking forward to checking out my Blu-ray of WATCHMEN whenever it arrives this week.

As usual I agree with you when it comes to your thoughts on all the shows that I also watch: Burn Notice, Hung, Weeds, and Entourage. I've never heard of Z-Rock but I will definitely check it out. You turned me on to Party Down and I've been able to catch the reruns on Starz and I absolutely LOVE it!

Z-ROCK is very similar to PARTY DOWN and CURB YOUR ENTHUSIASM, where it's (mostly improvised) cringe comedy. In this case the premise is rock band by night, kids band by day.
