GRAND THEFT AUTO IV coming to PC this November with 'expanded' multiplayer. It's coming out in the US on November 18th, which is my birthday. So it'll be an extra happy birthday for me. I'm going to go out and steal a car and kill some hookers in celebration. Because, y'know, supposedly that's the sort of thing that this game makes people do.
I'm not sure what game could've "inspired" this though: Video game thief gets caught, threatens clerk with AIDS. I can't recall too many games (read "any") games with that sort of thing happening.
Researcher: encourage more, not less Internet traffic. "There is not a single sign of an unmanageable flood of traffic. If anything, a slowdown is visible more than a speedup. This suggests that the industry might benefit from shifting its emphasis towards methods of stimulating traffic growth." Does that sound like a good thing for ISPs trying to make money? It sure doesn't to me. Metered broadband won't help.
Microsoft: Downloadable content is big business (for the Xbox 360). So with that in mind, you'd think Microsoft would be aggressively interested in dissuading ISPs from low bandwidth caps, wouldn't you?
Infrared spy plane leads to police officer's house getting raided over poor insulation. They thought she had a grow operation, she didn't.
Downloads match French cinema ticket sales: study. This isn't very clear. Are these downloads of movies that are currently in theaters there, or just movie downloads in general that include movies out on DVD there. I wonder how many of these downloads of movies currently in theaters are people who paid to see the movie once and wanted to see it again without having to go to the theater? Or people who just plain hate theaters (I can relate to them!) and if they like it will buy it on DVD when it's available? Or people who didn't want to wait to see a US movie that came out ahead of time here and weeks or months later for them?
2 IP addresses, 40 matches: Tufts tries to cut RIAA driftnet. It's hard to sue when you can't figure out excatly who allegedly downloaded the stuff. Not that that's ever stopped the RIAA.
Mark Cuban on BitTorrent: 'So what, piracy is collateral damage'. Mark Cuban is an interesting guy. Half of the things he says have me nodding my head in agreement. The other half make me wonder when they're going to come along with the white coat and haul him off. This is one of the times I agree with him.
Korean cloned puppies. My dreams of a replacement clone body for this one once it wears out are slowly coming true! I'm still not sure how they could transfer my existing brain over though. But hey, let's let science sort that stuff out. Plus, oooh look, puppies!
Now, if you think I'm a bit crazy after reading that I want to be immortal via cloning, I want you to remember that at least I'm not one of these douchebags: Elf Ears: just what your head is missing.
Pioneer develops 500GB Blu-ray compatible disc. I can't imagine that will be affordable for a long, long time. Hell, regular Blu-Ray is still a bit pricey for the average consumer right now.
Why Generation Y is broke. Isn't almost everybody in the US broke now? (I'm still trying to work out if I'm X or Y. The definition varies. According to most though, at 33 I think people my age fall between the cracks of the two. I guess that makes me part of 'Generation Ummm... Shoulder Shrug'.)
BitTorrent fires 20% of its employees. People want legal downloads. People don't want DRM. Therefore legal downloads with DRM = fail.
Could a little indecency save network TV? FCC stopping Comcast from limiting it's users access? Good. FCC censoring broadcast content and fining people based on a very very small number of complaints, all of which are usually by the exact same people again and again? Bad.
Black Hat: DNS flaw much worse than previously reported. Well, aren't you all glad that everybody seemed to drag their feet on fixing this one before the knowledge about it got out to the masses?

If you were born before 1980, you are most likely Gen X. The actual boundary line between the two is rather blurry between the years 1977 and 81,
