California can't perform pay cut because of COBOL. They can't find any programmers that still know that language that aren't retired. I'm laughing about this one because a friend and I took a COBOL programming night course over ten years ago, figuring that we'd easily get work fixing Y2K bugs in COBOL systems. Neither of us ever did jack shit with it. I honestly can't even remember if I bothered to finish the course or not. I do know that I remember absolutely nothing I learned there.
EA promises its games won't be 'crappy' anymore. That's certainly a bold promise.
Research affirms that DVR owners do indeed blaze by commercials. Well of course most people do. Commercials, for the most part, suck. Of course that sort of thing leads to in-show promos for sponsors. Like last week's episode of PSYCH, which I mentioned a few days ago. More on that phenomenon here: More signs of the product placement apocalypse
Let's pause for a moment to see what Kristen Bell is looking at...

I think we might share a hobby.
Police and newspaper say the internet turned 10,000 Australian kids on to crime. That's a helluva sensationalistic headline. I guess crime didn't exist in Australia, before the internet.
Say it ain't so, Chunk! GOONIES 2 is on the way. Well, maybe. Maybe not. Probably not. I still find it amusing that my cousin is friends with the dude who played Chunk.
U.K. video game critic Keith Vaz has a new target: THE DARK KNIGHT. Hey, sometimes even people who hate video games like to take some time out and point the finger at old favorite stand-bys like movies for society's ills.
Kevin Smith wins ZACK AND MIRI MPAA appeal. Good for him. The ratings system is always a bit arbitrary. What gets one film an R gets another an NC17. Honestly though, it's not like *his* version of the movie wouldn't have ever been seen. An unrated DVD is a certainty.
Quentin Tarantino destroys a movie reviewer during interview. Old video. Found this one on Digg. I love how this uptight phoney bitch, who looks like a obese version of that girl from that old TV show BLOSSOM, tries to Pearl Harbor Quentin by being all friendly at first and then she attacks him and he just lays out some reality for her.

HAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAAHAHHAHAHAHA
Seriously, in a place that hundreds of years ago was a British penal colony, how much crime could there really have been?
(No offense to Aussies in regards to the origins of your nation. I'm reasonably certain that America is where the Brits dumped all of the religious whackos they didn't want polluting their country anymore.)
have you watched this film is not yet rated? i caught it on IFC a month or two ago and it was really good. it showed how the MPAA was total bullshit in their ratings system.
i'm a CS major and have thankfully never touched COBOL. i always do enjoy reading stories like that though. i mostly know c++ and some VB and Java. i need to learn more java before i graduate and c#, since that seems to be mostly what's in demand.
I've only caught THIS FILM IS NOT YET RATED in small chunks on cable. If I had to guess, I'd say that I've seen about 1/2 to 3/4 of the movie.
did you pick up crossed today? bit slow to start, but i can't wait to see how this turns out. should be sick. anytime Ennis himself says it's the most fucked up thing he's ever wrote, you have to get excited.
Picked it up, flipped through it, haven't really read it yet though.
So far, the only thing I've read all the way through is FINAL CRISIS #3. Bah. I'll probably just get the rest of it via scans. Unlike the rest of the comic reading world, I don't bow at the feet of Grant Morrison. Most of his work just hasn't connected with me as a reader, and FC just hasn't been interesting enough so far for me to justify dropping money on it.
i'm not much of a DCU fan. mostly anymore i stick to writers. i get everything by ennis and ellis and moore. plus all punisher and deadpool stuff, and a good bit of ross stuff. those giant crossovers though i avoid like the plague. my brother is obsessed with them, so if i ever want to i can just steal his copies and read or the trades.
