The biggest reason phonebooks are even still published are because they're full of ads, which make the people who publish the phone book a lot of money. I read somewhere that phonebooks make up a significant portion of most dumps and landfills (10-30%).

i've fallen asleep last 3 nights to death to smoochy. i was going to download special dead based on the imdb entry alone, butthe trailer made it look dumb instead of funny. so guess i'll pass.
