Doctor Who - Series 5 Finale Theory

The first part of the finale will be airing this weekend in the UK, and in a few weeks here in the US. I'm pretty sure I know what's going to happen. Skip the rest of this post if you want to avoid spoilers for episodes that haven't aired yet in the US.

It involves the "Pandorica" which, looking at it from the preview is a big box. We've been told that when the Pandorica opens it's going to be a bad thing.

We know that a bunch of villains will show up for the opening of the Pandorica. Daleks, Cybermen, Sontarans, etc.

In the next episode preview last week we're told that it's a "box, a cage, a prison". We're told that there's a "goblin or a trickster or a warrior, soaked in the blood of a billion galaxies, the most feared being in all the cosmos." Sure sounds like the Doctor, at least from his enemies perspective, doesn't it?

People have been guessing that the Doctor will be inside the Pandorica when it opens. Some are pointing to leaked concept art as proof of this.

I personally think that all of his enemies have banded together to build this prison for him. They're going to lure him there with the knowledge that when it opens it's going to be bad. And it will be bad... for the Doctor. They all gather for "the opening" and it'll be empty when it opens and they're going to jam him in there. Maybe they'll then destroy the TARDIS, which creates the cracks in time and explains the piece of TARDIS rubble from a few episodes ago.

I'll be interested to see if the current fan theory that this entire series has taken place in an alternate universe is correct. I don't think it is, but I suppose it's possible.

Of course we also know that he'll survive since the show isn't ending. We can also guess it won't be a cliffhanger, since there's a Christmas special like usual this year.
