I got a few emails that talked me into doing the fix for the Xbox myself. After looking at the directions and watching a video or two it doesn't look much more difficult than doing the CPU on a PC. The hardest part, it seems is actually getting the Xbox case open. I probably won't get around to attempting this little project until Saturday.
Worst case scenario, my broken Xbox stays broken. Best case, I save $200 on a replacement. (For a few months at least. I've read that this fix can last for a long time or only squeeze a few more months out of the Xbox.)
So, hopefully, by the weekend, I can finish that last level of SPLINTER CELL: CONVICTION, which is the part I was on before the machine stopped working for more than two minutes at a time.
