Leno Fail!

NBC in embarrassing retreat on prime time Leno show. Shuffle out of prime time. Hooray!

Some fans unhappy with NBC pulling 'Leno Show'. These same people are possibly unhappy about the younger generation with all their hula hoops, Elvis, and pinball machines. (Read: They're really really old.) My favorite comment on this story was "euthanize these people".

Hell, not even the hoopla over NBC's plan could make people tune into that hack: 'Jay Leno Show' ratings drop despite cancellation talk. HAHAHAHA!!!

CBS exec: NBC's Leno experiment didn't work - TCA Report. Summarized: "nah nah nah nah nah nah, I told you so."

Entertainment

Well, they made the right move with Leno, but still seem to be keeping the mess that is HEROES on life support: NBC leaves door open for more HEROES.

Hollywood no longer an "original idea town". No shit.

Meanwhile ABC plans to milk LOST to death, and screw the show's original creators: LOST: THE NEXT GENERATION could be on its way. Bad bad bad bad bad bad bad idea. I figured a remake by 2020, but to try and get a sequel in development before the final season of the original has even aired? Wow.

THE VENTURE BROTHERS will be action figures. If I still collected stuff like this, I'd be all over these.

BETTER OFF TED fans begin futile “save our show” campaign. Good show, and I'll be sad to see it go, but these campaigns never work out.

Does DOLLHOUSE's latest head-twister actually make sense? The ending became obvious before it happened. I still think there might be another twist coming involving this revelation though. Only two more episodes left.

Marvel sues to keep rights to Spidey, X-Men from Jack Kirby's heirs. X-men they could have a partial claim on, but Kirby had very very little to do with how Spider-Man turned out. In fact they're suing for Spider-Man's supporting cast, and Kirby definitely had nothing to do with them. That was all Lee and Ditko.

New STAR TREK sequel has a 2012 release date! Cue Shatner lobbying for a cameo any second now...

RIP Art Clokey, creator of GUMBY. When I think of Gumby, I think of Eddie Murphy in all those old SNL skits.

Video Games

FFXIII is “biggest swindle in gaming history”. That's an amazingly harsh review.

HEAVY RAIN coming on February 23. It's sandwiched between BIOSHOCK 2 and SPLINTER CELL: CONVICTION. February is just became more expensive and game heavy.

Oh, and there's some new gameplay footage: HEAVY RAIN gameplay footage touches ground.

The return of Irrational Games. New/old name, hopefully same amazing quality games.

New RESIDENT EVIL 5 Gold Edition screens. I loved RE5, and want this for the additional single-player missions. Maybe I'll buy the disc version for the PS3. (I've got RE5 for the 360.)

Pachter: There’s loads of “shovelware” and “crap” out there for Wii. Man, it's games industry dump on the Wii week. I think that people forget that there are loads of shovelware out for the other two systems too. However, fairly or unfairly, the Wii has become more associated with its crappy games than it's good ones.

Rockstar accused of terrible working conditions. I'm sure most game company jobs aren't much better than most regular office jobs. In some cases, probably worse, because of the intense deadline pressure and long hours. But anybody going into the games biz would be incredibly naive if they didn't think going in that that was going to be standard for that career.

The Rest

New lobbying organization tries to skirt the rules so it's not called a lobbying organization. Where there's greedy pricks, there's a way!

Unemployment rate still only 10% because everyone's just giving up. Ain't that the truth!

Online gambling boss gets 33-month sentence. Pretty ridiculous, right?

Damn straight Hollywood no longer has any original ideas. And when they do they want to squeeze every ounce of life out of it. A Lost sequel would be a bad idea, answer our questions and let it be done.

I say there will be a "reimagining" of LOST by 2025. I think an nearly immediate sequel/prequel spin-off of the current show would tank.

Has there ever been an immediate sequel/prequel spin-off that didn't tank? I can't think of any right now.
