My August Poker Results So Far

Today started off so well. I steadily made a little bit of money here and there. Then I hit a few nice hands and won about three buy-ins. I even hit one of my little goals that I set when I first started playing for cash. I managed to finally (more than) double up from my initial deposit on PokerStars.*

First, we've got a chart with just today's (Saturday, August 8th) results...

Of course, after winning "big", I stopped to have something to eat. A little bit later, I logged back in, and within 20 minutes and 14 hands, I managed to lose nearly two buy-ins. So essentially, I wiped out most of the progress for the day, even if I did still end up with more than I started with. It's frustrating. Even more frustrating when you're the statistically the favorite to win until the last card and the other guy gets a lucky break with his garbage that he should've folded pre-flop. (I also want to punch players that pull a "won and run" in the throat. Just slightly more than I want to slap the players that weren't even involved in the hand who feel the need to congratulate the winner. He got my damn money, that's more than enough reward, he doesn't need your verbal stroking on top of that.) To have it happen twice within 20 minutes, is a clear sign that it's time to call it a night. Especially before I went nuts and started giving my money away while desperately trying to recoup my losses.

I'm not going to let it get me down too much. Overall, a week into it so far, I'm up for the month. Hopefully I can get through August without any super horrible downswings like the ones I had in the previous month and a half.

Here's the month so far...

So, I'm still on a fairly steady upward climb, with some occasional short term drop-offs and close to doubling up from my deposit (for the second time). I've just got to learn to quit while I'm ahead.

If I can keep up the (mostly) steady winning on one table, I'll move back up to two or three tables at a time.

* The fact that it's taken me nearly two months to double up my initial investment shows that I'm either unlucky, or really mediocre at poker.
