Warner Music says music video games must pay more. Those music games are quickly becoming the place where people look for new music. They certainly aren't looking to radio or (hahahaha!) MTV much anymore. Some bands have started to realize this and have begun releasing their new singles as downloadable tracks for the games before other outlets. So of course, greed sets in. Is anybody really surprised? (Here's a lengthier, more in-depth article for ARS.) I think it's hilarious, and telling, that somebody besides the record companies came up with a way to get people to pay for music, so they want to take a gigantic slice of it.

Movie theaters stave off extinction. People like to see "event" movies in theaters. That's what helps to keep them afloat. Putting out movies that are worth seeing helps a bit too.

"R" ratings might help comedies: poll. I think R-rated movies are more of a reflection of the real world. In the world I live in people say "fuck". I'm not saying movies have to have tons of profanity or be racy to be funny. But it certainly doesn't hurt either.

Teenage arson suspects say GTA taught them how to make molotov cocktails. I've played every GTA game from GTA III on, and I've never come across a tutorial on making molotov cocktails, which are a weapon in the games. Then again, it's hardly a complex weapon to make, and probably common knowledge. This just screams, "Say video games made you do it and you'll probably get a reduced sentence or get off completely," tactic. (One of the first things that springs to mind is the kids who burned down a house in the 90s and claimed they got the idea from BEAVIS AND BUTTHEAD. That forced MTV to remove all of the references to fire in the show.)

Americans Drinking Less Alcohol. I haven't drank so much as a single beer in over a year. I don't have any particular reason for not drinking anymore. I just haven't had occasion to. Honestly, I don't even particularly miss it that much. (I absolutely get in far less trouble by not boozing it up.) So, I've probably lost any tolerance I had and am now back at lightweight status. The downside to my not getting rip-roaring drunk a few nights a week anymore is that I have less things to write about on here. That's a bit of a loss because it used to make for somewhat interesting and unpredictable reading.

8 Timeless Classic Movies That Critics Are Afraid Of. I think this list is dead on the money. (I even love two of the movies, GODFATHER and STAR WARS, but I don't think they're above criticism.) Personally I'm in favor of sterilizing anybody who likes either GREASE or SCARFACE. (SCARFACE is an okay movie, but it's elevation to "gangsta bible" status has earned my scorn.)

Andrew Cuomo's blueprint for how gov't can get ISPs to censor content. I'm really baffled as to why there isn't more outrage that a lawyer from NY can essentially intimitade ISPs into cutting out services for the rest of the country. (Let alone in his own state.) Services with a legitimate purpose, I might add. Getting rid of usenet because of the fact that some kiddie porn might be posted to a newsgroup or two out of thousands of newsgroups without it is like burning down your house because there's a bee in one of the bedrooms. It's obviously a "look what I did" stepping stone to a higher office.
