Rapidshare Lowers Premium Account Download Limits: Nerd Rage Ahoy!

I first found out about the lowered limit for Rapidshare Premium accounts at this link: Rapidshare Reduces premium user download limit.

Nice of Rapidshare to stick it to people (like me) who paid for accounts with higher limits. When I signed up it was 5 gigs a day. Then they upped the limit to 10 gigs a day (even better!). Now, they've lowered it to 4 gigs a day. That sucks.

Now, I rarely hit four gigs a day on RS, but I liked having the option to do so. Now I sort of regret signing up for another 3 months in advance. (I went with that over renewing my usenet account because it was cheaper.)

I'd assume this is at least partly due to them removing the catchpas and download limits for non-paying users (although they have really really slow download speeds). I say stick it to those who aren't paying for the bandwidth and give people at least the 5 gig a day limit back.

It's also pretty insulting that Rapidshare's news page refers to this as "download improvement for premium users". This must be some usage of the word "improvement" that I'm not familiar with. It sounds more like "a fuck you to premium users" to me.

Due to the significant number of new users who subscribed to Rapidshare during the last two weeks, we decided to extend our internal resources. In order to maintain the best possible performance for all Premium users, we decided to limit the download capacity to 4 GB for each user during this transitional phase. Premium users will be able to save up to 30 GB of download capacity, if the daily 4 GB volume has not been used.

So yeah, I'm a little irritated by this. It'd be nice to get an additional month for free or something over this. I doubt that'll happen though.
