Links For 7-30-2008

I guess you can get news from online comics as well as entertainment. Thanks to this Overcompensating strip I found this news link: Bill O'Reilly, Michael Savage, Sean Hannity on accused shooter's reading list. The guys who make conservatives all seem like a bunch of uptight idiots. The same talking heads on TV that whenever something like this happens can usually be counted on for calling for bans on video games for making people violent. I guess if they had any integrity at all they'd call for a ban on themselves.

Text of New U.S. Senate Video Game Legislation Now Available. Created and supported by three guys running for re-election. Doesn't this just scream, "Let's make it look like we're actually doing something, and dress it up as something 'for the children'!"? Again, this is one of those "video games must be labeled and those with adult ratings shouldn't be sold to kids" laws. The ones that waste money because they're already clearly labeled on a voluntary system, just like movies. Why aren't these senators making laws against movies? (Even though I disagree with those sort of useless laws as well. The games and movie industries' voluntary ratings seem to work just fine for the most part, even if the movie ratings seem odd and arbitrary most of the time.)

Series of federal charges for 'series of tubes' senator. I think that even more hilarious than his utter lack of a clue about what the internet is.

Hideo Kojima teases, "If there ever were a new Snake...". I don't know how interested I'd be in playing a Snake-less METAL GEAR game. The last attempt at that, with Raiden in MGS2, wasn't well received.

I love CASINO ROYALE. But I'm not upgrading to the new collector's edition on DVD. I think I'll hold off on getting the CR:CE until I make the eventual leap to Blu-Ray and just get it in that format.

FCC does something good...FCC to uphold network complaint vs Comcast. FCC does something stupid... 22 public interest groups roast FCC smutless broadband plan.

Online threats materializing faster, study shows. Security holes are being exploited faster than people are getting word about them. That's actually somewhat disturbing.

Woman admits file sharing; challenges constitutionality of copyright act. Essentially, she's challenging the ridiculous amounts of money they want per song when you're caught sharing music.

Green Party Calls UK P2P Fight an 'Attack On Civil Liberties'. Nice to see the backlash against the new UK anti-filesharing initiative is going strong.

Comic-Con wrap: Oh, right, comic books. Even the mainstream media is lamenting the loss of comic in Comic-Con. Hell, even some of the celebrity attendies like actress Jaime King agreed that Hollywood was taking over.

Cinematical Seven: Most overly used lines in trailers. I'm sure we all know these by heart at this point.

Fifth of U.S. TV viewers watching online: survey. I honestly thought that number would be higher.
